Characterization and Application of Ethylpyrrolidone

Ethylpyrrolidone is a colorless and transparent liquid with a boiling point of 82-83°C (101.3Kpa), a relative density of 0.994g/cm3, and a refractive index of 1.4665 (22°C). It is a strong polar organic solvent. It has high chemical stability, weak alkalinity, outstanding solubility, low vapor pressure and low dielectric constant. It does not form hydrogen bonds and is a polar aprotic solvent. It can replace other solvents with poor stability, high vapor pressure, and easy penetration into the skin. It is called a non-toxic super solvent.

Ethylpyrrolidone is a non-ionic polymer compound. It is the most characteristic of N-vinylamide polymers and the most extensively studied fine chemical variety. Has developed into three categories of non-ionic, cationic, anionic, industrial grade, pharmaceutical grade, food grade 3 specifications, relative molecular weight from thousands to more than one million homopolymer, copolymer and cross-linked polymer series products, And has been widely used with its excellent and unique properties.

Solubility: very soluble in water and solvents containing halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, amines, nitroalkanes and low molecular fatty acids, etc., insoluble in a few solvents such as acetone, ether, turpentine, aliphatic hydrocarbons and alicyclic hydrocarbons; compatible with most inorganic acid salts and various resins.

Ethylpyrrolidone is a monomer that forms polymer PVP. Other main applications can be divided into the following aspects:

Plastics: Monomers can be added to the formulation of UV curing coatings to form flexible and hard plastic films. Adding NVP to the radiation medical formula can improve the elongation and viscosity of high-gloss and low-gloss coatings.

Metal: UV coatings for metals generally use cationic vinyl ether/epoxy chemistry or heterocyclic systems to form formulas. The function of NVP is to crosslink with vinyl ether or acrylic functional groups to form an excellent active diluent in these systems.

Ink: The packaging market uses EB and UV curing technology to speed up production and reduce energy consumption. Cured inks with excellent performance and low odor occupy an important share in the screen ink market.

Electronics: Electrical equipment manufacturers rely on the rapid processing and low-temperature processing of UV coatings to protect cables and electrical components and printed circuit boards.
