Use of Pentaerythritol

Pentaerythritol, molecular formula C5H12O4, is white crystals or powders, which is flammable, and easily esterified by general organic. Storage method:

Pentaerythritol is mainly used in paint industry. It can be used to manufacture alkyd resin coatings. It can improve the hardness, gloss and durability of coatings film. It is also used as raw material of rosin resin for color paint, varnish and printing ink, and can be used to produce dry oil, smoldering paint and aviation lubricant. Fatty acid esters of pentaerythritol are highly effective lubricants and plasticizers of polyvinyl chloride, and their epoxy derivatives are raw materials for the production of non-ionic surfactants. Pentaerythritol is easy to form complex with metal and is also used as hard water softener in detergent formulation. In addition, it is also used in pharmaceutical and pesticide production. Pentaerythritol molecule contains four equivalent hydroxymethyl groups with high symmetry, so it is often used as raw material for the preparation of multifunctional compounds. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) can be prepared by nitration. It is a kind of strong explosive. Pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) can be obtained by esterification and used as paint.

The intumescent flame retardant can be obtained by mixing with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as a flame retardant of adhesives. It is also used as a crosslinker of polyurethane to provide branched chains in polyurethane.
