Analysis of Propylene Glycol
China's large-scale industrial production of glycol ether began in 1990s, but at that time ethylene gloycol ether is the main production object. In 2015, the ouput of propylene glycol ether in China was about 30 to 40 tons, of which propylene glycol methyl ether accounted for 70% of the total output, and was the most important branch.
Since 2015, the industries in China that require ethylene glycol ether and alcohol ether ester have been gradually replaced by propylene glycol ether and alcohol ether ester. The demand for propylene alcohol ether will increase rapidly.
As the propylene glycol ether products have excellent performance and good prospects for development, more and more businessmen have attracted a lot of investment to build propylene glycol ether factories in recent years. From 2012 to 2013, although the annual apparent demand of propylene glycol ether increased steadily, the growth rate of production capacity was faster. According to the statistics of SCI, the production capacity of PM/PMA was growing rapidly from 2008 to 2012. However, the growth of production capacity was not obvious in the years after 2013, and there was no growth especially in 2014. But there was a rise in capacity in 2016.
In 2014, global demand for propylene glycol ether reached 947,400 tons, reaching 1,101,800 tons in 2016. In 2016, the apparent demand of PM in China was about 300,000 tons, and the apparent demand of PMA was around 270,000 tons. With the continuous improvement of environmental protection policies, the demand for environment-friendly solvents that is led by propylene glycol ether will continue to grow. Many of them are used in industries like electronics, automobile brake fluid, cleaning agent, etc.
