N-Ethylpyrrolidone (nep solvent), abbreviated as NEP, CAS number 2687-91-4, molecular formula C6H11NO, molecular weight 113.16, colorless or light yellow liquid, its boiling point is 212°C (normal pressure), and its flash point is 90.3°C (closed cup). It is an important fine chemical intermediate and polar solvent. It is generally widely used in lithium ion batteries, polymer materials, medicine, chemical additives and other fields and industries. It is weakly alkaline; it is a strong polar organic solvent that can be miscible with water and general organic solvents in any ratio.
Synthesis method: There are pyrrolidone method and γ-butyrolactone method to synthesize n-ethylpyrrolidone (nep solvent). The pyrrolidone method requires halogenated alkanes to participate in the reaction and produce corresponding halides. At the same time, the selection of halogenated materials for the reactor is relatively high. In the γ-butyrolactone method, N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone is prepared by the condensation of primary amine and γ-butyrolactone. The yield of this method is relatively high, but the process conditions are more demanding.
Uses: It can be used as a highly effective selective solvent, catalyst and cationic surfactant, and can also be used as a basic raw material to produce pharmaceutical intermediates. It can be used to refine oil products and produce medicines, dyes, pesticides, daily chemicals, coatings and heat-resistant resins.
