ACRYLATES

Acrylate is a general term for esters of acrylic acid and its homologues. The most important ones are methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl 2-methacrylate and ethyl 2-methacrylate. It is able to self-polymerize or copolymerize with other monomers, and it is a monomer for making adhesives, synthetic resins, special rubber, and plastics.

The performance of acrylate rubber is affected by the number of alkyl carbon atoms in its main monomer alkyl acrylate. Rubber based on acrylate has good oil resistance and heat resistance. And on the basis of butyl acrylate rubber, due to the increasing of the number of alkyl carbon atoms, the shielding effect of ester based polarity increases, therefore, improving water resistance. And due to the shielding effect at the same time, it has weakened rubber intermolecular forces, increasing the internal plastic, thus reducing brittleness temperature, cold resistance is good. If the above two monomers are used together, the rubber between their properties can be obtained.
